TO ALL FEMALE GOLFERS OF BERWICK HEIGHTS GOLF COURSE

We are about to start a new season for the Ladies Group of Berwick Heights Golf course. CONGRATULATIONS to Paul Parsons, of the Parsons Family Group, on the purchase of Berwick Heights. It is a new season, and we are already seeing some new and exciting ideas and positive changes.  We are pleased to welcome new Club Manager Gary McMullen to Berwick Heights and are happy to welcome Neill and Stuart back along with Angela and Sherry. We look forward to working with Gary and his team to make Ladies Golf a wonderful experience at BH.

This is lengthy but we are trying to give you as much information to help you decide whether you would like to be a part of the ladies Group. You will want to read to the end as there is exciting news, which may help you in your decision to join the BH Ladies Group. May be a good idea to save this to refer to for the coming season.  The members of your executive are:

Cindy Easson:  President

Sandy McLean:  Treasurer

Susan McCarrol:  Weekly Draw

Andrea Saulnier:  Statistician

Joy Parker:  Home and Home

Diane Clarke:  9 and Dine

The Ladies Group Executive have met and following is the information needed to navigate you through the coming season:

With Covid restrictions lifted, and we try to live with this virus, we are returning to a more normal play and want each female golfer to do what makes them comfortable. Example: Wearing a mask or not.  There are no directives from NSGA or BH Golf Course so we have set up play accordingly.

IMPORTANT CHANGE NOTICE:  LADIES GROUP GOLF WILL BE HELD ON THURSDAYS this year. To join the Ladies Group you must have a full membership or a weekday membership.  Our season goes from the first Thursday in May to the last Thursday in September. Our start date is May 5th, 2022, weather permitting. There is a one time seasonal fee of 30 dollars, which covers prizes throughout the year, and the year-end closing event.  You must call the pro shop each week to register to play on that given Thursday.  You will need to register by noon on Wednesday.  Please give your full name and whether you are playing 9 or 18 holes, (knowing you are able to play more or less if you change your mind that day).  Susan will be making up the teams on Wednesday afternoon by drawing tees to determine who you will be playing with, and what hole you will be starting on. In fairness we draw the tees in the hope you will get to play with different players each week.  You are welcome do 9 or 18 holes and to ride or walk.  If you do not have a cart and want to ride it may work out that you can ride along with one of the three others you are playing with, but it may not, so you need to be prepared to rent a cart if you wish to ride.  Berwick Heights Cart Rental for Ladies Group Day is:  Members rate for 18 holes is $18 a seat if sharing and $20 if riding alone, and a special rate for 9 holes for Ladies group day only is, $12 if sharing and $15 if riding alone.

Please arrive no later than 8:30 am. to assemble with your playing partners for the day and to get to the assigned hole ready for a tee off time of 9:00 am. We have a shotgun start and will be putting teams out on holes 1, 18, 17 and 16 depending on our numbers.  Those playing 9 holes only, need to make sure to play holes 1-9, as the prizes will be based on them.  We will be giving out weekly prizes in the form of coupons to be used at the newly named club restaurant, The Heights Bar and Grill.

Another change for this year:  Hole number 4, with the beautiful gulley, will be getting a new tee box for ladies and Juniors.  It remains a par three hole and will see the tee box at approximately 90 yards and on the other side of the gulley.  This will be the tee box to be used on Thursdays when playing with the Ladies Group.

We try very hard to encourage new golfers by being helpful, kind and patient while they learn this very interesting and somewhat challenging game. We also hope to offer some group lessons at a very good price. REMEMBER, Ladies Day is for fun, and fun competition for those interested in that aspect. For those who wish to take them, we give one mulligan per game.  To keep us on an even playing field, we ask that you putt out, with no “gimmies” on Ladies Day.  If we have a two-putt rule, or if we decide that you do not have to play out of the sand, this will be announced before you head out on a given Thursday.  We try to keep a steady pace and play “ready golf” unless a particular game requires  “order of play”.  Having said this, we are especially patient with new golfers, as we want this to be a safe, encouraging, and friendly place to learn the game of golf.  It is important for us all to remember when we started.  It is Ladies Group Golf day Thursdays and the course has been very supportive in giving us the time needed. We thank them for this courtesy.

We are pleased to have the support from the course in keeping you informed of upcoming events.  Neil is the media man and will be posting items for us on Facebook, Instagram, Berwick Heights website and by sending emails to the membership.  Watch for these along with information posted on the bulletin boards in the Clubhouse.

We are hoping to have some social events this season.  We will start with a 9- hole game, meeting and a meal in June, date to be determined.  This will be your opportunity to learn all about how Ladies Group golf is run, who your executive is, present questions and concerns you may have, and enjoy golf and a meal with fellow golfers.  For those female members who are trying to decide whether you want to join the Ladies Group, this would be a wonderful opportunity to help you in making that decision. We would love to have you.  We also hope to bring back 9 and Dine, with Diane Clarke and Mandy Burgess offering to run that event.  They would love to have help with the organization of that, so you can be thinking about that and ask how you can help when we meet for our game/meeting/meal in June.  We also hope to have a non-competitive Home and Home event with Paragon and possible Eagle Crest.  We have had this event with Paragon in the past and Eagle Crest has reached out to see if we are interested in doing something with them.  More information will follow as we seek interest and planning begins.

FOR THE BIGGEST AND MOST EXCITING NEWS, BERWICK HEIGHTS GOLF COURSE HAS DONATED A ONE YEAR FREE MEMBERSHIP TO THE LADIES GROUP.  THIS IS TO BE DRAWN FOR AT OUR CLOSING IN SEPTEMBER AND USED FOR THE 2023 GOLF SEASON.  YOU MUST BE A MEMBER OF THE LADIES GROUP AND HAVE ATTENDED AT LEAST HALF OF OUR WEEKLY THURSDAYS  (MAY 5TH TO SEPTEMBER 29, 2022).

What a great year to be a member of Berwick Heights Golf Course and the Ladies Group.  Come join us for some wonderful fun, golfing, socializing, and meeting a great group of ladies.
